Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking to make a tangible difference in the lives of animals in need? La Société Genevoise pour la Protection des Animaux (SGPA) is seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers for rescue work at our Carouge shelter. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the care and rehabilitation of animals, from daily feeding and cleaning to providing comfort and support during their recovery. Your involvement will be crucial in ensuring a safe, loving, and stimulating environment for all our residents as they await their forever homes. This role is unpaid, offering invaluable experience and the profound satisfaction of directly helping animals.

Hauptverantwortlichkeiten

• Assist with daily animal care, including feeding, watering, and ensuring clean living environments for various species (cats, dogs, small mammals).
• Support in the rehabilitation of rescued animals through gentle handling, socialization, and enrichment activities.
• Participate in the intake process of new animals, including initial assessment and settling them into the shelter.
• Observe animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to the animal care staff.
• Help with administrative tasks such as maintaining animal records and preparing adoption kits.
• Assist with shelter maintenance, including laundry, cleaning common areas, and organizing supplies.
• Provide comfort and companionship to animals, especially those recovering from trauma or illness.
• Support public outreach events and adoption days as needed.

Erforderliche Fähigkeiten

• Genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong desire to help.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to scheduled shifts.
• Physical ability to handle animals (of varying sizes and temperaments) and perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and cleaning.
• Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor around animals, especially those who may be shy or stressed.
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn.

Bevorzugte Qualifikationen

• Previous experience volunteering or working with animals in a shelter or rescue environment.
• Basic knowledge of animal behavior or first aid.
• Fluency in French and/or English.
• Ability to commit to a regular schedule for at least 3-6 months.
